Default Speedometer / Odometer inop?

I Have a 1997 Ram 1500 4x4, 5.9 liter, automatic. The speedo and odometer do not work. I installed a new speedometer sensor but did not correct the issue. Anyone out there having good advice on what to do next would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks to all replies!

It would be the rear sensor. Just did mine. Bought the truck a week ago n the guy was to lazy to do. Took about 20 min to replace. 30 bucks at O'Reilly

97 and older trucks have the VSS on the output tailhousing of the trans, or t-case. The sensor on the rear diff is only for ABS. That changed in 98.

Well....Pulled the VSS.....Seems like I have a 98 up output shaft with NO speedo gear splines.....

Will check output petter tomorrow with rear of truck on hill so it doesnt leak

Thought only the Torque converter and VB electonics were different.....
