5.9 magnum 01 ram cylinder #5 misfire
i have checked all the injector connectors they all look in ok condition. I can tell that it is fireing on all 8 now, there just is something effecting all 8 cylinders now. im starting to lear towards a vacuum leak. I might have broke a line when I was working on it at some point.
Over behind the engine, passenger side, is where they usually break. Bunch of 'em come together there, and a lot of them are the plastic lines..... they get brittle with age, and break really easy.
So I started disconnecting vacuum lines to try and find if and possibly where a leak could be. Couldn't find anything for sure but for kicks in disconnected the pcv hose and it started to idle better. Granted it wasn't perfect because I'm sure it needs to relearn idle because I have kept the batterie disconnected so it doesn't kill it. But why would that happen? Forgot to mention that I plugged the port for the pcv with my hand for kicks just wanted to see what it would do, and it killed it. Don't know if it means anything just giving all the info I got. I don't know if that means something with the fuel system or whatnot but just trying to find an answer. And this miss is gone.
Ok, you pulled the hose off the PCV, and the engine ran better? (I would assume it idled up some.... which may mask a minor miss), and when you plugged the hole, the engine died?
That sounds a lot like an IAC problem......

So I took it into a shop to see what it was doing. Doesn't have a misfire, just starting rough and idling rough. They told me everything mechanical was in good condition and working. They told me the only thing that they could think of is the computer may need to be reflashed, I did an airgap kit to and moved my iac sensor closer to the air filter and further away from the hot intake. Is there any way that is effecting it? I've heard yes and I've heard no.
How rich? IAC won't have a profound affect on mixture... only when the engine is running in open loop. (for about two minutes after cold startup, and and when you have the throttle better than 1/2 to 3/4 open.) If it's running rich in closed loop, better have a look at your pre-cat O2 sensor.
