Default Knock at idle

I just got an 01 1500 with the 5.9 4x4

Whenever it is in park it makes an almost knocking sound. It's inconsistent.

I can only hear it inside the cab and only in park.

I'm lost, any help would be appreciated!

Narrow the sound down. Engine? Which side? Exhaust? Etc. provide more info.

It sounds like it's coming from the engine but I can only hear it in the cab so it's pretty hard to tell...

Ten bucks at NAPA will buy you a handy stethoscope.

Does the knock change in speed(or get louder) when you rev the engine? Did you try neutral instead of park?

If it's in neutral I can't hear it, and if I rev it in park I can't hear it...

Gauge says just over 40 when cold and just under 40 when warmed up. Fresh oil

Take a look at the shifter linkage in the engine bay all the way down to the tranny. There was some sort of tsb on that.

It's too dark to look at the linkage so I will tomorrow. But could that be related to why I don't need to put my foot on the break to put it in reverse/ neutral/ drive?
