Default No Brake lights on a 2001 3500

Hey guys long time lurker here, sorry dont post much. Lol
I have a problem and I hope someone can help me out. I have a 2001 3500 that I use to pull a 28 foot enclosed car hauler. The last time I used it I drug the wiring and shorted the trailer wires. I smelled something hot so I pulled over and the brake lights were stuck on, so I pulled the switch off of the pedal. Just about burnt my fingers off it was so hot.

I repaired the wiring and replaced the switch. No lights, I checked the fuse under the hood, ok. It has power to the pink and blue wire but not the white wire. I shorted between the 2 wires and boom brake lights. So bad switch out of the box right? Picked a new switch and both times I installed them exactly as the instructions say and..... no lights.

Am I doing something wrong or just keep getting bum switches?

Welcome to DF!

I assume you fixed the part where the wires were dragging? If bypassing the switch turn on the brake lights.... either bad install, or bad switch. The switch is supposed to be 'self adjusting', but, it's a one-shot deal. I think there is something you have to release after the switch is installed?

Well that was a ordeal. First off yes fixed the wiring at the trailer. 2nd parts house switches are junk. Finally went to a junk yard and got a oem one along with the pig tail. Funny thing you can adjust them they just dont want you to. My problem ended up being a combination between junk parts house switch that loses contact when you wiggle it and a bad pig tail that loses contact when you wiggle it. The junk yard part fixed me right up and is working fine.

To adjust the switch just turn the lever back to 45 degrees and hold it and push or pull the plunger in or out as needed. Takes a couple of times to get it right but really no reason to throw away the switch.
