Default Downstream 02 Sensor Rich code after PCV

Hey everyone,

Yesterday I changed out my PCV and Coolant temp sensor. Took it for a 10 minute drive and it drove and idled fine. I took it to work and during lunch drove it, CEL came on mid drive and now its getting a semi-rough idle. Ran the codes and the downstream 02 sensor read rich. I ordered my PCV of RockAuto but read they may not have the same flow rate as the OEM ones. Could just the PCV be causing that much of a change in behavior? And why would it happen mid drive? I also have not change the upstream 02 sensor since I got the truck in the winter.

Thanks,

Patrick

I learned a long time ago to only use OEM PCV valves. Try that and see what happens.

Might want to pick up a CT sensor also. I wonder if the pcm thinks the truck is still cold and dumping in more fuel?

Rear O2 monitors the cat. What kind of shape is yours in?

I think I will go to the dealer today to pick one up, hopefully its as simple as that.

I just replaced this as well with the last tuneup I did. The truck gets up to temp fairly quickly, but it stays consistently around the 190-195 range when cruising and when I did a few moderate pulls to 4000 RPM the other day.

This was another concern of mine and I know eventually I need to replace it. My plenum was pretty bad and my intake was filled with oil so I am sure its not in the best condition. It also appears the previous owner didn't keep up with maintenance as well as they should have so I would bet its the original cat at 130K.

Weird part is I drove it a few short distances without a functioning temp gauge and it ran and idled perfectly, and once I changed the PCV and wired in the new temp connector now I am getting problems.

PCV replaced with OEM and that seemed to be the problem. Smooth idle and no more CEL. The designs of OEM vs Aftermarket were indeed different.

Awesome. Also, you might look into a new cat/y-pipe just to improve the power and eliminate the old stocker. Mine started rattling about 110k and the Magnaflow was a good improvement. Got about 70k on it.

Any links to which one you got? I am sure mine is on its way out at 130K and just fixed plenum and PCV.

While I don't recall the exact model, this looks like it. I got it for 170 many years ago:
