I noticed the other day that my oil light came on at idle. It went off as soon as i tapped the accelerator. The oil pressure gauge went up a bit and light went out too.

I checked the oil and it looked OK. This happened with an old VW Beetle I had and it led to the motor blowing down the road. I'm hoping this isn't the same thing.....

Anybody had this issue?

 

Just about everyone. Oil pressure sensors are crap. Replace it, see if the problem goes away.

 

You may have a sludged up pick up tube and screen in oil pan, depending on prior maintenance. Only way to know for sure is to hook a mechanical gauge where pressure sensor lives or replace sensor and see if the problem persists,
