Bit the bullet, and got the work done. Got all the bad 'hard parts' from them once done, just to ensure they didn't go back in. Also got the TransGo shift kit box and left-overs. They installed a medium kit, all except for the parts that allow shifting into first at any speed. Didn't want that to happen.
Other than a wallet alot lighter, the truck drives great. The firmer shifts are great too. Got the 3yr/36 mile warranty for $0.05. Drove it 300 miles so far, and no more shifting issues. Checked with the stealership, and a reman would have run $2200, and then the extra cost of the shift kit install and labor. Not including the 'hard parts'. Would have ended up at the $3200 price tag or close to it either way.
Hopefully, the Aamco horror stories were isolated cases, since they're independantly owned. Passed it's 200 mile checkup fine. Now to focus on the low eng oil pressure. Always something.
