Default Cab Swap Question

I have a 2001 Ram 2500 5.9 V8 4WD 5 speed. The cab is rotted to hell, so I'm going to swap it with a donor cab. I have my eye on 2 cabs. Both are rust free. One is a 1995 Ram 2500 4WD auto, and the other is a 99 Ram 1500 4WD auto. Both are stripped and would require me transplanting all of my interior into the donor cab.

How big of a headache am I getting myself into here? Are there significant differences between the 95 and the 01? Or would everything go together just the same because I am transplanting my whole interior? Would I be better of going with the 99? Thanks!

95 cab will be a major pain to make it work, too much changed in 98. The 99 cab should be a direct swap. Yes, it's a LOT of work. While it's apart, change the heater core, and evap core as well. Aside from that, just a lot of little parts to transfer.

Thanks HeyYou. They changed the sheet metal of the cab in 98? I can get the 95 for $300 cheaper than the 99, but I guess paying the extra cash will be worth it.

Pretty sure I also need a brake booster. Usually when coming to a slow stop, the brake pedal will get very hard and I'll hear a groaning sound coming from the engine compartment. So I hope swapping the booster will clear that up.

Do you have 2 or 4 wheel ABS?

Yeah, I think the cab floor changed, and also the seatbelts are different. Spending the extra money for the new cab will save you a fair bit of hate and discontent.

From the build sheet: Anti-Lock 4-Wheel Disc Brakes

Wonder if that is not what you are hearing..... maybe have a wheel speed sensor freaking out.

Wheel speed sensor would cause the brake pedal to get very firm and lose stopping power for a few seconds?

Yeah, that's the ABS kicking in, making odd noises under the hood, and taking away your control over braking. Nice huh?

not sure how much the cabs you're looking are, but I have a good quad cab in CT still has interior in it, no doors.
