Distributor Timing/Install
Duly noted and updated. I will post a new thread asking about the scanner.
I replaced my distributor and lined it up with tdc mark on balancer and rotor aligned with mark on distributor.
This got it to run and then I set fuel sync using the digital volt meter method to get 5 volt at switching point.
I know I should get it set with a scan tool but it runs good enough for now until I can either find someone with the tool that I can borrow or set it for me. I really do not want to pay the dealer to do this.

Loosen distributor just enough that you can turn it with some effort.
Red wire from meter to the tan/yellow wire for the distributor pickup and black wire to negative on battery.
Key on and then turn distributor to find 5 volts. Took me a couple of tries to get it. Then tighten down distributor.
It was actually very easy. Balancer at TDC then 17 degrees to the V8 mark.

From TDC if you rotate the crankshaft 17 degrees you will end up at the v8 mark on the balancer and this is where you need to be in order to do the adjustment.
