Default 3500 vs 2500 steering column?

Is there a difference between the two columns for 2nd gen? Mine is a 2000 std cab. I'd like to get a replacement for mine, I stumbled onto a 3500 series - wondering if I can use that one.

Thanks!

If they are the same year, they will be exactly the same. In fact, I think the only differences in steering columns occurred in 98, when they went to a different style of controls on the steering wheel. So, pretty much any column from a 98 and up truck, with the same options you have, (cruise, steering wheel radio controls?) regardless of weight rating, should bolt right in, and hook right up.

I have controls on the wheel (cruise and something else), the donor does not. So I'd have to swap wheels and harness (suspect). Anything else different?

Possibly the clock-spring in the steering column. May have a different number of contacts.

Also, keep in mind, if you allow the steering wheel to free-wheel while it isn't connected to anything, it will destroy the clock spring.
