Default A noisy 5.9

I have a 1999 Ram Sport that sprung a leak. It was the timing chain cover gasket. I replaced the timing chain while I was in there. I fired it up and there was a bad whining noise, almost like a scrub coming from inside the cover. I tore it all down again and found nothing unusual, no sign of anything scrubbing. I started it up without cover and the noise is still there, so I put the old timing chain set on and the dang noise is still there, even though everything is back just the way it was. Anyone have Any idea?

Can you tell approximately where the noise is coming from? Did any coolant get in the oil?

The noise is coming from what sounds like the oil pump, or somewhere right behind the timing chain. some coolant may have gotten in there when I removed the cover. What would that do? It's just wierd that it started right after the new timing chain went on, and everything looks fine. Thank you for answering.

Oil pump is at the back side of the motor, just below the crankshaft.

I would be tempted to get things lined up nicely, and pull the cam gear off, and see what things look like behind it.

Have you tried turning the crank manually and see if you hear the noise or is it only when the engine is running?
