Well, you can get it rebuilt for *starting at* 1200, or, get a megaviper for around 2800, and never have to worry about it again.

Does the factory converter work with the mega viper and/or is there a better TC to go to? What about stall speed

They sell torque converters as well. You do NOT want to use factory stock, they suck.

So if I ever drop the tranny it would be in my best interest to change the TC? Sorry for thread hack. What should I put in? And why is factory not good. I'm not up to par with transmissions so the more info the better

Factory TC had a weak clutch. That is one of the primary points of failure for our transmissions. Replacing it isn't a bad idea, if its out anyway..... but probably isn't absolutely necessary if you don't do 'heavy' stuff with your truck. (tow, haul, carry heavy loads.) Best thing you can do for it, is to make sure the fluid stays at proper temp. Heat kills, and is THE biggest killer of automatics.

For a replacement, just get a good quality converter, with the appropriate stall speed for your use. Talking to one of the manufacturers is the best way to make sure you get the "right" one. But, if it's under 200 bucks, it probably isn't any better than the stock unit. In this case, you do indeed get what you pay for.
