Question 2001 dodge ram automatic transmission interchange

I have a 2001 dodge ram 1500 2wd. Auto tranny stopped working and when I pulled the pan off parts fell out. Can anyone tell me what years interchange and if a tranny out of a full sized van will fit. It has the 5.9 liter motor.

I believe as far as regular rams go, as long as it comes out of late 98 or newer ram with a 46re you should be ok, I'm not entirely sure if the van tranny will work, i believe its the same, but the electronics might be different. Also since yours in 2wd, it would be easier if you got one out of a 2wd drive ram otherwise if its out of a 4x4 model, then you have to switch out the tailshaft with the one on yours now...

2 and 4 wheel drive trannies have too many differences to make it worth trying to swap one into a spot where it wasn't before. It involves tearing down the trans.... and if you have to do that, might just as well rebuild the one you have.

What parts fell out of yours? If it's just band strut/anchors, you may be able to put them back in, and get some more mileage out of your trans.

You want a trans from 2000-2002. 46RE. Electronics changed in 2000.
