Default Pinion bearing removal

I'm trying to get everything together to install a detroit trutrac along with replacing my fried pinion bearings. I'm having a difficult time finding an adequate tool to remove the inner pinion bearing, the harbor freight bearing splitter abs puller seems to be garbage, and I can't afford the good kit, autozone doesn't lend it. I have a press I can use so I can figure something out to press the new bearing on, but can't figure out a good way to get it off

I bought a bearing separator..... Don't think it was too expensive either. Got it at advance auto.... but then, I have a press in my garage, and also rebuild mower decks...... so, I use it fairly regularly.

A splitter made for big bearings 5" or so should work fine, pinion bearings should not be all that hard to get off.

I appreciate all the help HeyYou, I'm just posting on here to see if anyone has cheaper alternative methods the harbor freight kit is too small, and frankly its garbage. I'll look at advance auto for the separator, still deliberating doing the axle bearings with the rebuild...

Never had it out so I wouldn't know I'll try that then. I just hope my ring and pinion didn't get ruined, didn't think of that and I'm having a hard time finding 3.92 ratio... you weren't kidding...

This is what I was talking about. Even has a bad review for pinion bearings...

Many folks commented on the cheap materials, even those that liked it. Most of them also did NOT recommend it for every day use. A couple guys tried to use it for what you want it for, and it did not work.

Find something better quality. Don't any of the parts stores rent anything like that? How much would a shop charge you to remove/install one bearing? (or possibly three, if you are going to do carrier bearings as well.)

Parts stores don't rent anything like that, that I can find at least. All other kits are $400+, way out of my price range. Local shop wanted $40 to remove and replace 1 u joint so I don't even want to know what they would charge for that. I got the whole rear rebuild, all bearings and the new detroit diff, so I'll just put the new bearings on and take the old one out and their it right into the scrap pile I'd like to reuse the old pinion bearing to set up the shims, I just wish I had the money to pay someone to do this. Desperate times I guess
