Question Rear gas tank strap issue

My rear gas tank strap just rusted off. I am taking it into the shop tomorrow for another issue. its a short drive. front strap seems solid. should I be worried about the gas tank falling down?

I agree, use a strap. 3/4 tank is a lot of weight and added stress on just 1 gas tank strap. If 1 of yours rusted out, the other may not be far behind.

The rear strap seems to suffer the worst from the elements. I replaced mine a couple years ago, the front strap is still just fine. I think it was like 50 bucks for the pair of them.... (still have the front strap laying around somewhere....)

Definitely use something to secure the rear of the tank. 3/4 tank is HEAVY, hit a hard bump, and you run the risk of breaking the front strap, or rupturing the tank. Neither scenario would be very much fun.

Whoa! that does sound lucky! I secured it the best i could and drove it about 6 miles on pretty smooth roads..so it worked out. Front strap was really rusty too. The truck spent its first 17 years of its life in Michigan and Minnesota...now taking a break in Georgia...what really sucks, is that I always keep it waxed, but the sun down here in the South is just ruining the roof and hood paint...feels like sandpaper.....
