46RE, 1998 1500 4x4 5.9l

Won't shift into D1 or D2 using the shifter. It is like the linkage is stuck or hitting something.

p r n d are fine. The transmission shifts smoothly through All gears when D.

It has probably been years since I tried shifting beyond D. Is there a chance something has rusted frozen?

I looked at the linkage and it is rusty but moves.

Any ideas?

Same on mine!

 

Shift gates are in the steering column..... Disconnect the linkage at the trans, and see if you can shift the trans down all the way. If that's ok, try the shifter. (still disconnected)
