My opinion I don't like them in a truck motor cause when hauling their constantly high rpm screaming. My old 5.9 hauls way better then any 5.7 hemi I've used to haul a trailer. But as far as fast and quick acceleration and hp the hemi beats mine. When I drive a hemi truck it feels more like a toy then a work truck. I'd never trade my old brute 5.9 or my 5.2 truck for a hemi but from what I hear that almost what your looking for
I used a 2010 Ram 2500 Hemi to haul a tractor up from Indiana. (about 300 miles.) I think total load was prolly around 4500 pounds, with trailer, tractor, and accessories. Had the (auto) trans in tow/haul mode, and it was turning about 2300 RPM or so at 70 on the freeway. Put the engine nicely into its power band, and had no troubles with it at all. I actually enjoyed the drive.

An LA, but still an interesting read. The 318's have a lot of potential but are often looked over by the "More Cubic Inches" crowd. However, I can't really say anything due to stroking my 318 to 390. vroom vroom. :-)

Sorry, I was replying to the OP's 318 question. I'd suggest starting a new thread with your question to avoid confusion. Do that and I'll post the build sheet from my 390 short block for you. I don't want to clutter this thread up anymore that it already is.

Somebody made a quote on here somewhere stating a 318 is really made for trucks they're mistakenly wrong 318 is been the common motive for most any Mopar engines since 1960s they only started putting him in a trucks in the 80s 318 is made to go fast and still pull it all depends on the gearing on top of it all all I've done to my 318 is a $75 to tune at Dodge which eliminated the governor is maxed out as much as it was possibly could but just a government is in then install the chip you can do your 175 with stock Mopar with no issues but I want more so I came on to here see what everybody was saying but I wanted to correct whoever said that 318 only
for trucks Mopar anything using them for years for speed and power 360 is actually pulling power actually there are power house for a small block when you get in the big blocks that's where that becomes into a truck as a pulling power or built for speed most of the time they take the 400 440 to create blower motor anybody have ideas to build this 318 to a ****ing monster to prove people at a 318 can and will do the speed that Mopar built it for
