No 0verdrive on my rebuilt 1998 46RE Transmission
At 155K, it was time for a rebuild on my 1998 46RE transmission. I took it to a reputable shop, and after I drove it for a week, I finally got on the freeway, only to discover that I had no OD. I called the shop, they said come in, so I did.
They called back an hour later and said that I had a Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit malfunction (P0340), and that would prevent the OD from locking up, and that needed to be fixed first.
I'm going to take it back to the shop, but here’s what I have done on my end:
1) Pulled the harness for the Camshaft Position Sensor, cleaned it with contact cleaner, put it back together with silicon grease.
2) Re-routed my spark plug wires as per a TSB notification (To prevent misfires on the No 5 & 8 cylinders).
3) Replaced two - apparently bad - spark plug wires.
I have not thrown any codes that trigger the Check Engine light, but when I connected my ODB, I saw a P0783 code - "3-4 shift malfunction”.
Here are the symptoms:
1) At 60 MPH, I am showing 2,400 on my tachometer, with OD button engaged.
2) When I lift my foot off the gas, RPM drops to 1,250 or so, and bounces between 1,000 and 1,300 if I am on a downhill grade.
3) If I disengage the OD button at 60 MPH -under throttle - engine RPM drops to 2,300 for a moment, then goes back up to 2,400.
4) When I re-engage the OD button - under throttle, at 60 MPH - RPM drops to 2,300, then immediately goes back to 2,400.
5) If I disengage the OD button while coasting, the RPM jumps up to match engine RPM to vehicle speed.
6) If I re-engage the OD button while coasting, as soon as I apply throttle, the transmission “bangs” into gear, while RPM climbs to match vehicle speed.
I have yet to run a second tank of gas through it, so I have no idea what my milage is like at the moment.
I have gone through the Dodge Service Manual troubleshooting section, but I’m not the transmission expert! Any Ideas?

P0783 3-4 Shift Solenoid, No RPM Drop @ Lockup
I would do a hard dump (pcm reset) and see if any codes come back.
No - no PCM reset. I think I threw the P0783 after I picked the truck up... Thanks, guys. I heard back from the shop - they said bring it in.
Reset the PCM and went for a drive for an hour or so. Checked for codes - found a P0138. Nothing new - my truck throws that code all the time - even after I replaced the O2 sensor.
Still no OD, so Moparite, I think it's time for a new solenoid
