Default Transmission replacement

Well gentlemen ,

Here I am again with a swap out question for my 95 1500 4x4. This time, lucky me, its a transmission question. The question is this, we were reading an old book and it said that the transmission in our truck currently is the same one that was introduced in 89 or 90 as the 4 speed automatic labeled as the A518, from what we understand the tranny was renamed in 94 because of the new body style. Can we use a transmission from 1989 thru 1995 as long as its a 4speed. If not what is the difference? We know why we cannot use a 96 tranny.

Any words of wisdom will be much appreciated, you guys are always such a huge help!

Tera

Yep, if it's a 4 speed auto, from behind a v-8, (and 4x4) should work.
