Default Over heating issue help!

5.9 1995 dodge ram Truck had a little antifreeze Leak somewhere around the water pump but not sure where. The top hose usually has pressure built up and is hot. But the cap is usually cold and most of the rad. Is cold. Not sure whats going on. Driving down the highway at about 70 mph. Temp gauge sky rockets. Eased it home. And after I let it fully cool the temp gauge was still all over the place with out it running. Not sure where to start.

I agree with Charlie. Thermostat is the first thing to check. Water is not circulating. If it's not your thermostat, then probably the water pump.

So it wasn't fixed? That would explain lac of coolant in the motor(overheating). You didn't say where the level was after you got home. ??? If there is a leak it wont pull fluid from the reservoir when it gets low. Need to find what's leaking and fix it.

Would the fan clutch cause water pump damage? The fan wobbles.

Also. With the temp sensor unplugged is it normal for the Guage to read above 130 even after the truck hasn't ran for a few days?

Your truck has two temp sensors. One for the gauge, and one for the computer. The two wire sensor is for the computer.

If your fan clutch wobbles, time to replace it. Yes, it can, and will, take out the water pump.
