Question Fluctuating idle. Lean roll ??

I am experiencing what I would best describe as "lean roll" at idle only. It runs fine as long as I don't stop and idle.

Is it possible that the cruise control servo or vacuum line would contribute to this? If I followed the cruise control vac line correctly it looks as if it uses vacuum from the manifold and is also plumbed into the washer fluid line. < Is that correct? If so, that is an odd setup IMO.

I suspect the IAC valve again, but it wasn't too long ago that I pulled the IAC to completely clean it with electronic-cleaner spray and some Berryman's.

thx

What's a lean roll? If you have unstable idle, that's more than likely a vacuum line.

Windshield washer is not vacuum powered at all.... so, they have nothing to do with each other.... Need to recheck that.

I should have just said the idle won't steady -- it fluctuates from a "stall" to 800 and back again...sometimes it will not stall; falling to about 200rpm

The fix was replacing the IAC valve...I had cleaned the old replacement IAC about 20k ago and it fixed a similar problem...I figured the part had just given up this time. I probably could have cleaned it AGAIN, but wasn't going to chance it for the money and potential downtime. The valve was extremely dirty again...I figure with an engine at this age it is just getting more and more blow-by. I'm at 281k now.

I just asked my local shop to work up a quote for new-reman crate engine and rebuilt trans...anyone care to share what they paid for a similar service?

What is this "hard plastic line (highlighted green)" in the attached picture?

thx all

That plastic line is a vacuum line.

one end goes into the intake manifold (as you can see in the pic) but the other goes into a series of other similar plastic lines and plastic check-valves...what is all of that?

Lines split off to various things that are vacuum powered, vents, 4x4, and, of course, the vacuum reservoir under the cowling.

As the cold hits I am getting some additional issues and I feel like they are vacuum-related.

When I place a load on the engine... ie. semi aggressive acceleration or climbing a steep hill the air vents inside stop blowing and then when the load is taken off the engine I get a *POP!* and the air starts flowing again...

any ideas there?

thx again
