Default P1740

Hey everyone I have a 2000 ram 1500 with the 5.2l engine in it. The CEL came on Sunday and on monday i realized the trans has no 2nd gear it shifts from first to third. put the scanner on it and its code p1740 for tcc or overdrive solenoid. does ant one know which solenoids, bands or clutches apply in second gear? also has anyone has any luck fixing this. this is the second trans in the truck. the original lasted 89,000 and now this one which was a factory rebuild lasted 99,000. wondering if its worth fixing or just time to get a new truck. also the camshaft has the hard facing coming off of it.. thanks in advance

Usually, it's just a solenoid replacement. Getting any other codes? When was the last time the trans was serviced? Fluid and filter, band adjustment?

Welcome to DF!

No other codes. fluid was replaced i think 50k ago. Band has never been adjusted. Does that solenoid affect 2nd gear?

Nope. Solenoids (aside from governor pressure....) only deal with TCC, and O/D. May be as simple as a band adjustment.....

Try this:

Unplug the 8 pin connector, about halfway back, on the drivers side of the trans. Go for a ride, bearing in mind you will have ZERO automatic function from your trans. Start out in first, accelerate gently, shift to second, then third. If that all works right, just replace the electronics in the trans. Should fix it.
