Yeah, solve the problems you know you have before you go looking for more. O2 sensors can cause a host of performance problems, and it won't always set a code.

Yep. That silly sensor is the primary factor in all closed loop operation and can really unmake your day. Unfortunately, the way the PCM works it doesn't set a CEL for the thing until after you've traded the truck in so it's a just gotta know it kind of thing.

 

I think the ngk up stream one is only like 35 dollars on amazon so as soon as my bank gets updated and I figure out how much I got in it I'll probably order it

Once I get that ordered the truck will have a new alternator, a new battery, a new pcv valve, a new o2 sensor.
Truck still holds great oil pressure even though it needs changed, I'm wanting to flush the radiator eventually too. Kinda want to use the old timy cascade trick but I'm not sure about it

 

It works, and very well, but it'll also show you every leak you've got that was plugged with scale so you'll want to be prepared for that possibility. Be sure to mix it thoroughly before dumping it in, and when you're done cleaning flush with plain water until the water department comes out looking for the main line rupture. You don't want it doing to your aluminum radiator what it does to aluminum pots and pans when they're not thoroughly rinsed.

 

The pcm is staying in open loop I think

And eh, I might use an actual bottled flush I mean the truck don't over heat or anything so I'm not to worried about it I had just seen some goo looking crap stuck to the radiator

I had always heard take and drain your coolant, fill it up with water, the last gallon is cascade in the water and let the truck run for 50 minutes, drain it while its hot, pull the upper radiator hose put your water hose in the filler of the radiator once the truck cools down turn the water on and fire it back up, heat needs to stay on max the whole time and as it was brought up, if you had a leak and it was plugged with crud, you will have a new leak because the stuff cleans super good, people use it to get oil out of their system

 

Cascade is dish washer detergent.

It's only when the heater core is valved that you need to turn the heat on full to get that valve wide open so the soap can reach the heater core. Ours get constant flow so the soap's getting in there regardless of the control settings.

My favorite old school trick is filling the crankcase (to the proper level) with diesel fuel and ATF, 4:1, and running the thing for an hour. The best part is that it scares the bejeezus out of people.
