Default Brake line replacement

Hi so recently I bought a 2000 dodge ram 2500 V8 5.9L 4WD for $600. Truck runs fine but has tons of rust due to the location its from. The brake lines are leaking so I have to replace them along with the master cylinder. Not too savvy with brakes so not to sure on what parts to order exactly. If someone could list the parts or a DIY tutorial it would be a great help and appreciated. The brakes work but the pedal is soft.

Just go to the parts store, by some bulk line, the right flare fittings, and a flaring tool. (and a couple quarts of brake fluid.....) Replace any of the lines you don't like the look of. The one that runs to the rear, right above the gas tank, is notorious for rusting out, and braking......

Or, if you don't like that idea, there are still places you can purchase full sets, or, individual pre-bent lines for your truck. Rock Auto, LMC Truck, possibly even the dealership..... Need to know if you have 4 wheel anti-lock, or just rear anti-lock brakes though.

Welcome to DF!

You can get 304 stainless steel ones also depending on your truck configuration. But i doubt you want to do that on a $600 truck.

Yep. If you have a second vehicle, wouldn't hurt to take the current flare nuts in with you, to make sure you get the correct sizes. (and I think there is more than one size too.)

I'd replace the rubber hose as well. The newer steel brake line bends easily and doesn't rust as quickly as the old stuff. It takes time but isn't too bad of a job.

Yeah, good idea there 2bit. Replace ALL THREE of the flex lines.

I just went through the entire system on my truck. My suggestion is to spend the money and go with Nicopp lines. Its double the steel roll cost, but it bends and flares like butter. Also do replace all the rubber, bleed it all once. (Also expect to replace at least the bleeders and maybe a few calipers.) As for the tube nuts, they are a million different sizes, good luck. Be careful, mine with 4 wheel abs had at least 3 different threads.
