Gas to deisel swap?
no,you want 89 through 97 with 91 or 92 being the first years of the added intercooler(more power!) couple it with an nv4500 5sp...wire up the starter and 1 wire for fuel cutoff solenoid and you have a driving vehicle, but, you might need some gauges..lol.. oil pressure, water temp are easy, speedometer shouldn't be to hard to figure out, tach could be a little tricky, ive heard of guys rigging up a crank sensor with a reluctor wheel to get the tack to work, you'll have to do some research on that, but, overall it should be a pretty easy swap , I was gonna put a 6bt in my Dakota, but, I think ill wait until my 360 dies..theres a lot of good diesel conversion forums to get info from ( 4bt swaps) is very informative among others..

Give that his truck is a 98...... maybe going for the 24valve would 'simplify' matters some. (if I can even use that term for a swap of this nature......) The engine/trans would drop right in, and bolt right up, it would require changing the wiring harness/pcm, and the instrument cluster, but then, everything would work, without having to fuss around with it. There are LOTS of tuning opportunities for the 24v as well, and given the nature of this project, cost doesn't appear to be all that much of a consideration.......
