Default Misfire Update

Ok heres an update on my misfire issue.

I replaced the NGK Iridium plugs with a set of Autolite copper core. Ran the truck with my scanner hooked up and saw that is generated a code for cylinder 5 again after about 10 minutes of running. It didnt shoot the engine light on but the code was there. The engine light did come on today. My question is could I possibly have an issue with the wire at #5? I never ohmed it or put a meter on it. Its routed the way the TSB says to put it. How would I check the wire for any faults? Also what would be the next step in searching for this thing? Im tired of smelling fuel when I start it and the misfire issue is getting kind of annoying, not to mention the idle is a touch rough. Thanks for any input

Swap the wire with another one, (both ends please. ) see if the miss moves.

You are running out of possibilities though... its really past time for a compression check.

Default Misfire Update****

I know its been a while but heres an update on the cylinder 5 misfire...

This may be a little long, sorry in advance

I think I have a bad head. I know these magnum heads love to crack. I still need to test compression to rule that out. Anyway, heres something else that happened while i was checking the valves on #5...

I pulled the valve cover just so I could rule out a broken spring or potential issue on the cylinder. They looked fine, nothing broken. The rockers were really nasty looking...they all were but #5 rockers were caked with crap. I popped the rockers off, cleaned them and pulled the push rods out 1 at a time and cleaned those too. Reassembled everything and ran the truck. It ran for 15 minutes and when i looked at the dash i had zero oil pressure. Shut it off started it again and had pressure. Drove to work the next day and every time I would accelerate the oil pressure would go to zero. Well about half way to work it decided to stay at zero. The engine sounded fine but when I parked i goosed the gas a little and could here top end engine rattle. Im leaning toward oil pump. 233,000 miles on the engine. The pressure has acted funny for about a year. Cold starts it would have no pressure for 15 seconds and then come up and be fine. Even though I did what i did to the rockers by cleaning them Im sure that has nothing to do with it. Coincidence that it just decided to poop out at the same time? Thanks, sorry about the long post. Im planning on doing a high volume oil pump Saturday

Grab a cheap mechanical gauge, and see what pressure is really doing. The electronic sensors have some truly interesting failure modes...... Mechanical gauges just work.

That involves taking out the oil sending unit. Dodge didnt make those things friendly to get to. A total pain in the ***. I do have an oil pressure tester. Like i said before this happened when first starting the truck oil pressure didnt register for about 15 seconds and you could hear the lifters til the pressure came up

If you take off the air hat, on top of the TB, lay a board from the radiator support, to the TB, you can lay on that, and the oil pressure sensor becomes easy. (I even used channel locks.... as I didn't have a socket that would fit..... )
