360 manual Swap
Last year I did a manual swap in my 1997 dodge ram 1500. I took the tranny out of a 1998 dodge ram 1500. I did not swap wiring harnesses. I heard that running the truck with the 318 fly wheel could cause vibrations and wear parts, so I looked into swapping it out with a 360 fly wheel. I was told by a guy at napa that they didn't offer a 360 fly wheel for a 97 or 98. It would have to be from a 99. Also that it could cause some engine vibrations. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if the 360 fly wheel would be fine or that the 318 fly wheel is okay to continue running. Also if anyone has swapped wiring harnesses before and if the 98 harness will match up with my 97. Thank you Steve
What engine do you have in your truck?
2 or 4 wheel drive?
98 harness is going to be radically different than the 97, it just won't work.
What electrical connectors are on the trans? Should just be reverse switch, and maybe a speed sensor? (but, I don't think the manuals had one in 98...)

If you have a 360, which I'm ***uming you do ( we all know what happens with assumptions) You should use the proper flywheel. A 360 is external balance, a 318 is internal balance... big difference.
This is the proper flywheel for a magnum 360 from Summit Racing. It is probably cheaper than what napa could get it for you too. If you still want to try napa, try looking for a 2500 instead of a 1500, might make a difference.
Not sure why everyone is hung up on the wiring harness. If you figured out the neutral safety and backup switch, everything is good there.
