I haven't tried to put a locker in yet. I plan to put in 4.10 gears and a locker to make it a posi-trac. A friend of mine is a dodge mechanic and told me he could do it for 300 bucks. I don't know if it is easy, but I'm gonna try to barter with him later. I'll let yall know how it turns out. btw..I have a 2001 Dodge Ram reg cab 2wd w/5.9...It ought to run pretty stout with 4.10 gears and posi-trac.

If you put a locker in, make sure it's a TRUE locker like a Detroit or an ARB. Don't get one of those lock-right locker kits. They are worthless. Also...if you do a lot of towing, DO NOT get an automatic locker (like the Detroit). If you tow, you would want a selectable locker like the ARB, which is pnuematic.

If he had a locker with weight over the axle, he'd be golden in the snow. I had a chevy truck that I used for plowing. It had a detroit up front and a detroit in the rear. I never got stuck once with that truck. It would damn near go through anything...copious amounts of traction. Ice is another story though. It would be kind of tricky...being that it's only a 2wd. I never had any troubles on it with the Chevy though. Too bad that truck rusted in half. [:'(]

As far as availability, I guess ARB doesn't make one for the 9.25. It's available for just about every other axle though. Just one more reason to upgrade to a Dana 60 Hi-Clear. The Detroit auto locking differential would be your only option if you have the 9.25.

I live in Colorado, and have an Auburn limited slip (mines a 4x4 though). I find it to be very good in the snow and ice, but also very tolerable the rest of the year when the roads are dry. If you off-road a lot in the summer, the locker would still be a good way to go though.

If you can't find a locker, you might look for a factory limited slip at a wrecking yard. When I purchased my '01 ram 2500HD QB LB 5.9L 4.10 Diff I also ordered it with the limited slip and 4-wheel ABS. Though I live in SoCal I drive home to Spokane, WA at the holidays (do not like flying, allergies to perfume/cologne). It is not uncommon to run in snow and/or ice from the OR/CA border and back, about 800 miles one way. Have never had any problems with treaction and that is with the stock Michelin tires. Just an idea that I thought I would throw out there if you can't find what you need elsewhere.
