Default Truck surges and won't stay running

Hey fellas, I got my 318 put in my 97 ram. I fired it up and it cranks right up then surges a couple times then dies. Any suggestions? Maybe the distrubter timing is off? Thanks in advance.

The distributor controls fuel sync not timing.

What year is the donor motor? Did you use the intake and sensors that were on it? How many miles on it? Was the distributor ever out of it?

Donor was out of a 2000 ram 1500. Yes same intake, I tapped a hole for the second temp sensor, 70,000 miles. I went ahead while it was out and put n new timing chain, water pump, oil pump, and Hughes plenum kit. I did mark the distributer and pull it to clean up around it.

Need to have fuel sync reset then. Need a scanner that will read it for that.....

May want to transfer the old sensor onto the engine. Dodge sometimes did strange things with them, so, they are not always reporting what the PCM is expecting.

All of 'em. The "s" fell off the end of "sensors".

Lol, yeah I had to put all the sensors off my old motor on to this one because the conections were different. Pulled the code for the check engine light and it says evap sensor fault. Pulled evap sensor and it had the carbon or whatever in it. Guess I'll pull the can and sensor off the donor truck, both of em r good. Also when it comes to fuel sync, I found a post on here to do it without scan tools. They used a multimeter. Is this gonna work?
