Default Oil Pressure gauge

I was noticing my oil pressure gauge cutting out and dropping to zero then as I would accelerate the gauge would read normal oil pressure again. Anyone have any ideas as to what would be causing this? At first I simply thought that the gauge was failing but then later on my trip my engine stalled and there was very little oil. Now the engine makes a knock and lacks power.

Knocking is bad. There is a real possibility that the engine is just smoked. Running low on oil to the point it stalls the motor indicates that bearings and such got REALLY hot, and they just don't like that kind of behavior.

Make sure oil level is up to snuff, and then check what oil pressure is with a mechanical gauge, on a fully warmed engine.
