Default New PCM?

So fun fact, the three character limit on search is a pain.

I think my PCM is shot. Truck decided not to start rather suddenly. It ran fine before this.

I have no spark and no fuel. Relays check good, but won't engage, all fuses are fine. I haven't checked the crank sensor because I can't find the damn thing. I did plug in my computer readers, and neither will connect to the computer.

Any thoughts before I go out and get a PCM? also with a 97, am i limited to 97, 98 for pulling out of the junk yard? which options do I need to look for or do I just need to match part numbers on the computer?

THanks

96 or 97, things got different in 98. hell, things might be different between 96 and 97.....

Make sure you are getting power TO the PCM before you replace it. I think there are a couple fuses for it.

Does your check engine light light up when you turn on the ignition(bulb must work)? If so the pcm is getting power. It may not be getting everything it needs to start the engine though. Did you check for codes?

Huh, who knew, the PCM had two fuses. Also, never check fuses with a NAPA multi-meter

Did the second fuse solve the issue?

It did. I swore I checked it before, but I hadn't pulled it from the truck to do so. So user error

At least it was a cheap fix. And the meter is always useful.....
