Transmission
Hi. im in California and some good friends of mine are driving my 1995 ram 1500 to me from Maryland. They are about half way across the country now and they have told me that my transmission is acting up. It is a manual, specifically the NV3500. Not being with them I don't know all the details but from what I hear it is jumpy/chattery when starting from a stop in first gear. Also fourth gear will jump out of gear when no throttle is applied. That being said I'm sure I have to replace the transmission. But I'd like to do that when it gets here so I don't have to pay a shop somewhere and delay the trip. Any thoughts on if you think the truck will make it half way across the country like this? All other gears work fine and it works just fine cruising the highway in fifth gear. Now another question. I'm obviously gonna have to replace this trans so does anyone know if I can run an NV4500 or an NV5600 without changing anything else. Including transfer case
I wouldn't trust the trans that far, if it is already having issues. But, as they are already on their way? just have 'em drive it as far as it will go. See what happens.
You can put in the NV4500, but, might be a difference in driveshaft lengths...... Not sure about the 5600, but, probably same issue.
