4.10 gear instal/intake / trasmission worries
what am i going to need besides the ring and ponion for a 4.10 gear install?
I also have an intake that i ordered but i put it on and it seems slower could this be possible having better flow with aftermarket then the stock box with k@n
and i think my transmission going out. its automatic and seems when i stomp it and get to 50 and then let off it takes a couple seconds to shift into a higher gear. it drags for a while then finnaly shift..

as far as the gear swap you will need bearing kits for front and rear diffs. I get my kits from CarQuest. they include all the bearings plus a pinion seal and crush sleeve. Not to sure on the air intake making the truck slower. As far as the trans, what year and model of trans is it? My just need a fluid/filter change and a band adjustment. Alittle more info and mybe some more help is availible
its a 98 ram 5.9 ram 2wd 1500 with less than 50k miles on it are u sure im gong to have to change all the bearings or can i just do the pinon bearing crush seal and shims?
I would replace all the bearings because when you set the backlash and pinion depth its best to start out fresh. no need to make her howl from the start. Gears arn't cheap and if they get set up wrong there is no going back after a wear patter is set in them. In 98 I think they were using the rh tranys. They first thing I would try is a fluid & filter change along with a band adjustment. Use the atf +4 fluid and bottle of LubeGuard red. The Atf +4 is pricey but well worth it in protection.
Well if your anywhere close to Arkansas my friend is a Dodge Mechanic with his own shop. He's got a set of 4.10 gears. He can put in the gears and make the rearend a posi-trac for 300 bucks. -Tyler
whats going to happen if i just replace the pinion and ring without changing out the bearings? and arkansas is a couple miles to far for me to travel

The others have given tips on the rear end. I'm here about the intake. What intake do you have? I just got my first Dodge truck yesterday, but have dealt with my 71 Vette for the past 3 or 4 years. Most intakes are actually better for more horsepower and horsepower is gained at the top-end level. You're looking for more low-end torque and the seat-of-the-pants response I'm guessing hence the word slow. If the intake is geared toward the top end then the heads are holding you back. Trucks aren't meant for super high rpm's. The valves start floating around 5500 to 6000 rpm (redline). But there again, I can better answer your question once I know which intake you have.
