A/c Running but Odd Symptoms - Please Help!
I got mine done. Just had to work at it a bit. What worked best was a ratcheting doohickey from hobo freight. The kind you can put a phillips or straight in. Like this

Or you may even up just using the bit and a small crescent to turn it while you hold it in place with the other hand.

I realized when driving that the diversion of air from face vents to defrost vents happened when I was accelerating or when the engine was under load - taking foot off gas or leveling out after a hill redirected air to face vents.
That made me think that one or both vacuum line check valves were bad and so I went to look at the two vacuum line check valves so that I'd know what they look like when I went to get replacements.
That's when I found a break in one of the vacuum lines near the tee close to the firewall. I used a few inches of 7/64" windshield washer tubing to make a repair and that solved the problem of air being randomly diverted from face vents to defrost vents and back again.
A/c runs good now but compressor bearings are noisy and so I bought a new replacement compressor.
It is preloaded with 6.4 ozs of PAG46 oil, but has a warning label on it that it contains refrigerant under pressure, and is sealed with a plastic plug over the line connections, held in place by a metal nut.
Question is, how can I safely undo that nut and release the pressure without spraying PAG oil everywhere and losing some of it..?
I'm thinking of covering nut and plug with a cloth and undoing the nut slowly and gently, gradually releasing the pressure...

That makes zero sense..... You HAVE to open it up to install it..... unless it works by wishful thinking...... I guess you don't get a choice, just be REAL careful when you crack it open... Go VERY slowly, and let the pressure bleed off.
