1998 2500, gas to cummins
Hey guys, I have a 1998 dodge ram 2500 that has the 5.9 gasser motor, and I'm wanting to put a 5.9 cummins in it. I've read a bunch of the threads about this on various websites and couldn't really find the answers to my questions. I know what a lot of you might say, it's cheaper to buy a truck with a cummins in it, however I don't want to do that. This truck has a lot of stuff already done to it and it was a gift from my father, so I'm not willing to get a different truck, this one has too much sentimental value. My questions are, if I buy a donor truck of the same year, say from a salvage yard or something, with the cummins bolt into where the gas motor was? Are the motor mounts the same? I've read in some cases there are, and was wondering if it is in my case? Also, I know the whole drive train minus the axles will have to be changed, including the fuel system. But is there a place for everything? Such as the pump, the intercooler, etc.? And if I buy a whole truck, everything on it, is there anything else I need to buy to make the swap work? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!
If you get a whole truck, of the same year, (or, slightly newer) you will have everything you need for the swap. If you need to move mounts and such, you will already have the parts you need at least.
Should be a complete bolt-on swap. Should be able to use your original driveshafts... (I think... the diesel *might* have different spline counts on the rear output, but, not 100% sure on that..... but, if you have the whole truck, still, you will have what you need.)

That's not really a big deal, my dad is a full time fabricator and has a full time mechanic that works for him, so that shouldn't be a problem.. awesome, thank you
