Why dodge ever decided to make the 318 balance different than a 360 was stupid !

Didn't the 360 evolve from the 318?

But the 318 is internal balance and the 360 is external balance !

It's all about what you have room for. If you can't have large enough weights on the crank to properly balance the engine, gotta do something.

Yup, or to pull cooling fans, radiator, (plastic!) intake manifold all for a rubber elbow on the PCV valve. There's all kinds if horror stories out there. Oh, for those good 'ol days when it was just an engine. (Am I dating myself here?)
