Default Where to install Temp Gauge sensor

New to forum
I have searched for an hour no luck
2000 Ran 3500 V10
I want to add an external temp gauge. I have not found a plug to remove and install the sensor. I want to keep the stk sensor on the thermostat housing.

I found a plug in the block drivers side - in the rear of the block near a freeze plug. Is that a good place ?
OR
what about the inline alum Tee fitting. I cannot find one that will fit the upper radiator hose 2inch ID 50mm.
OR
what about using the heater hose that comes off the water pump? It is 5/8. I can get a Tee fitting for that size hose

Thanks

I am not real familiar with the v-10, so, I don't know which plugs actually have access to coolant.....

T-fittings would work, but, if its a one wire sensor, you will need to provide a ground for it as well.

Lightbulb Mystery plug

If it's accessible, take it out and see what's in there.

I cannot find 2 inch Alum Tee fitting for the radiator hose. No one makes one that large.

Rather then pull the above found plug, Could I use the heater hose with a Tee adapter?
I assume water flows though the heater core all the time, no cut off or bypass.

I would only have to drain some of the anti freeze to use the heater hose vs a full drain to use the block plug

Another option to use a 'black pipe' PVC 2 inch Tee with threaded tap on the tee. !/2 thread adapters as needed to fit the sensor.

I am sure there are drivers out there that added an after-market water temp gauge?
Tnx

You might give TCP a call for that T fitting. They shipped a nice one with my e-fan kit.

I would not use "black pipe" PVC, I assume that you mean black ABS.

Yes, correct no plastic pipe.. ++

Hey Unregistureduser.. +++ I called TCP
They will custom make the Tee pipe for 34.95 shipped.
SO very easy and a great deal
I just cut the upper hose and install the alum Tee.

He also confirmed the ABS/PVC black pipe will not work under high heat.

Problem solved Thanks for the advice
Will report back after the mod is completed

Wow, that was easy! Did they give any kind of a part number? It might be nice next time someone needs a similar one...

Glad to help! The one you'll get will look like the one on my truck, I imagine:

Works fine, lasts a long time, won't rust, bust, or collect dust.

Yes that what Garth said it would look like.
There is no part number, just call and tell them you want an inline water hose Tee with thermo threaded bung. He need the ID of the water hose.
The best place for this temp reading is in the hose coming out of the engin better then block
For the price - this was a great deal and it will fit the hose.
