Default Rear Dana 60 drum to Dana 60 disc brake swap

I've finally found a nice Dana 60 disc brake rear out of a 2001 Ram 2500 4x2 truck with 4.10 gears and a limited slip unit. I've wanted to upgrade to 4.10 gears for some time, now that I'm running taller tires (285/75/16) on my truck. This appears to be a pretty straight forward swap, as my truck (1996 Ram 2500 4x4) already has a Dana 60 3.54 rear in it already. Just want to gain the rear disc brakes and the 4.10 gears. I know I'm going to have to add 4.10 gears onto my front Dana 60 and I'm preparing for that now.

As for the Dana 60 rear swap, is there anything else I need to consider? Does my master cylinder need to change? I'm assuming that the 2001 Dana 60 will have a tone ring in it and will still allow for my rear ABS to continue working properly. Thoughts?

It should pretty much bolt right in. There may be some minor differences, but, give both trucks are 2500s, should be anything to bad.

Don't forget to change the drive gear for the VSS.

Thanks HeyYou - I take it that the drive gear is the same as the old style pinion gear that has been in use in Torqueflight transmissions since the '60s - just need the right number of teeth to account for the 4.10s?

According to the 01 parts manual I have, there is no difference in the brake proportioning valve for the 2500/3500 through the model year. There are different anti-lock controllers between the rear disc and rear drum trucks.

I would go for it.

Pretty much. Wittrans.com has a nice little chart to point you at the correct gear for your combination.

Thanks for the reminder. I'll take a peek shortly, so I can add that to my list of parts I need to pickup.
