Default Mystery Misfire Issue Cylinder 5

Hey all...

You guys helped me out greatly last time so here we go again...

00 Ram 2500 5.9 gas auto 4x4...Cylinder 5 misfire.

The plugs, wires, cap, rotor and distributor are all only a year old and have maybe 2000 miles on them. Fuel pump is brand new also.

Number 5 continues to misfire. You can feel it in the idle at a stand still and slightly when first accelerating. Ive double checked plug gap and the wire for any issue. There is a faint fuel smell as well.

Can I possibly have an injector issue? Is there a good way to test injectors without noid lights? Or will i have to swap cyl. 5 with another cyl and see if the misfire moves? What have you guys seen on your Rams with misfires?

Thanks in advance, really could use some help on this!

Check plug wires anyway, and also routing. (there is a TSB for that in the FAQ section.)

Verify you are getting consistent spark on number 5.

If all that checks out, swap the injectors on 5 and 7, and see if the misfire moves.

Thanks for the heads up. I will look at FAQ for the TSB. If that doesnt do it I may try the injector swap. I will keep you updated. Thanks!

These engines seem to be quite sensitive to spark plug wire routing. Make sure they are routed the way the tsb says. If your truck doesn't have wire separators you should buy some

Default Update

Its been a few days since you guys gave me some direction on the wore routing for the TSB.

Heres what I have done:
Rerouted wires...cancentrated on #5 since thats where the misfire is
Also just tossed another injector in (used, pulled from bone yard, 2 actually, popped them in #5 and #7)

Truck seems to run a touch better but the code generated for a misfire on #5 again even with wire routing and some different injectors.

Anywhere else I may be able to go with this?

Thanks!

Are you using copper core spark plugs? Our trucks seem to be picky about wanting the copper ones.

What he said... And if changing the plug doesn't help, time for a compression test.
