Default 98 Ram 1500 (4x4): Need to narrow down the possible problem, pleas read

I have a 98 Dodge Ram 1500. The truck idles fine and runs normal, until about 40 mph and will shake and sputter like it isn't getting enough gas until it reaches about 50 mph and will resume normally. But, if I accelerate quicker it won't do it and runs great. I have had about 3 different "reasons" and none of them are alike, needing it narrowed down. Anyone else deal with this?

What has been done to the truck so far? What were the "other reason" that did not work?
Automatic or manual, what size engine?

Coil Packs, Fuel Injectors, fuel manifold, wheel bearing. I haven't done anything to it yet, with so many "suggestions" I wanted to narrow it down. Automatic, 5.9L

Check the plenum. (see stickied thread at top of this forum.)

CEL on? Any pending codes?

Unplug the front O2 sensor, go for a drive. anything change?

Using any oil? Still have your cat?

None of the symptoms from the Plenum thread seem to apply. No issues with oil, no knocking, doesn't have issues with hills.

No CEL, still have CAT.

I will check the O2 tonight.

I am not too well versed on trans issues, so does anyone think that this could be trans or flex plate issues?

Don't think so, that would tend to get louder/more annoying as engine load increased. (like, going faster....)

I suspect an engine miss....... but, we'll get to that if/when we need to.

I had a Chevy Lumina (ptui!) with an intermittent miss, it ended up being a marginal spark plug wire. I think I'd do a fairly comprehensive tuneup: plugs, wires, cap & rotor, and air cleaner and see what happens.

BTW, welcome to Dodge City!
