Default Random high idle

01 ram 4x4 5.2 auto with bbk tb and a volant cai. When I put the truck into park the idle revs up to 1100 and stays there. I can then tap the gas reving it up to 1500, the rpms immediately drop to a regular 5-700 and stay. This seems to happen randomly after I drive to work and park, or if it's really cool out in the morning. Any idea what this could be?
The tb was instaled about 1 year ago with new sensors and gasket. Also new transmission and transfer case seals this summer if that's even useful info.

- thanks in advance

My guess is a cable sticking, possibly your TV cable from the trans.

Yup. Check cables for binding. If those are ok, check the TPS......

Throttle body seems to be relatively recent... (not stock, at any rate.) so, worth looking at, but likely not the issue.

I was thinking an aftermarket IAC valve... the valve itself sicking internally, not the pintal in the throttle body opening.

I have checked the cables a few times and everything seems to move smooth. So next step would be tps or aic? They are both new, but I know sometimes that doesn't mean they are good. Tps is cheap enough... I forget what that aic cost. They were both Napa parts with lifetime warenty.

I have found that the aftermarket IAC valves don't always work well in our trucks. I had a new one in my truck, and I would stall at stop lights more often than not. Replaced it with a used Dodge unit I had from another motor, and problem went away. You can test the TPS, but, if it doesn't fail while you are testing.......

Is there a preferred iac brand? I just got the truck back from the mechanic for other repairs. he said he found the vacuumed leak and fixed my idle issue yet the problem still persists. So I'm starting to lean towards a bad iac

Get one from the dealer. The aftermarket guys don't always play nice.
