Default 98.5 dodge front axle swap to 02 axle

Wanting to know if a front axle from a 02 2500 dodge bolt on directly to my truck that has a 98 2500 axle. What are differences and what mods will I have to make so the newer axle will work on my truck?

The 2500/3500 trucks didn't switch to the third-gen stuff until 03, so, it should be a fairly straightforward swap.

Thanks!!! And that's what I was thinking to. Only differences I see is the 02 axle has no 4x4 vacuum acuator and the steering linkage is different

Yeah, they did away with the cad..... which will make wire up the 4x4 lite interesting. Front axle is always engaged, front driveshaft always spins. Doesn't really hurt my feelings. (just skip worrying about the 4x4 lite.)

Does the 02 have the cross-over steering? (instead of the Y style?) if it does, it's actually a better design......
