Nothing wrong with this, this is how my dakota is set up, and many 4wd vehicles come from the factory.
The only reason I dont do that is that I am putting in an aggressive locker and I actually drive this more than my car. Half the roads in my city are dirt and rocks and the others are full of potholes.

Unless the locker you're using is a spool, it won't affect your steering in 2wd. I vote 1 piece shaft in the front, 3rd gens have a live front end and it works well.

Another speed bump
I need a passenger side knuckle. one of the ball joints reamed a bit of the hole out.

Apparently no one makes a knuckle for this axle, nor wants to sell them on ebay.

2002 dodge ram 2500 dana 60 ball joint knuckle. Any thoughts?

Hiusmell (on the forum here) was a great help to me. He buys rams, strips them for parts. Maybe he can help?

I'd hate to ask anyone to go junk yard shopping for me, but I'd be willing to pay someone to find me a good one.

4x4 right side (passenger) knuckle. Ball joint style 2002 ram 2500 dana 60.
And hopefully ball joints removed and inspected.

The current one I have, I wouldn't have noticed if I didn't compare it with the other. It has a cone shaped wear pattern where the ball joint sat.

Just when I thought I knew all the reasons people don't build these axles up..along comes another "gotcha"... lol

Not the same as ball joint style?

Reid racing knuckles, perhaps?

Can you convert it to kingpin style?
