Go ahead and adjust the band that allows for the external adjustment (without dropping the pan) and see if that makes a difference.

The speed sensor doesn't report anything to the speedometer, it reads the speed of the input shaft on the transmission and is used to make decisions about shifting (for example, it often won't shift out of 1st). All of this is only relevant to 47RE though and you simply won't have one on 47RH.

94-97 the VSS in the tailshaft housing (trans, or t-case....) does indeed run the speedometer, that changed in 98......

Weird that I had a problem with that sensor on my truck and my speedo was never affected... of course with that said my truck is a bit of a frankenstein. My cab came from a 1998.5 or newer and probably a 1500 (no clearance lights and rear doors on my quad cab), my transfer case is marked as coming from a 97', I suspect that there are probably a half dozen trucks that were combined into the vehicle I bought (plastic fender liners on one side, steel on the other, and so-forth).

Thanks for clearing that up.

Intriguing.

That would be fun to explore its history.

Did you have a chance to make the band adjustment? If so, what were the results?

If you were asking about my frankenstein truck, analog odometer. If you're interested in tracing the origins of my truck, I'll make a separate thread so as not to hijack this one. I'm going to be in and around it when I do oil-undercoating, so I can get all sorts of pictures.

Interestingly, I have the original window sticker. It began life as a fully loaded (leather, power, etc.) Laramie in Waterfall Red (Red/Silver Two Tone) in Portland, ME.
