Default 1999 2500 4x4 5.9gas transmission upgrade

Hey just bought the truck and it has a bad automatic transmission. It slips and barely works in every gear. Everyone wants $2500 to rebuild. I've never had a transmission apart, but I want to and will be doing so by myself. I'm a machinist so it should be doable. What is the best rebuild kit and or BEEFED UP parts I need? Great thanks and appreciation friends!

Patc.com and can't remember the name for the kit that allows the pump to pump in "park" not just neutral and drive.

I think all of the kits from PATC will charge the torque converter in park. (letting you check fluid level in park....) Which one you get, just depends on how beefy you want, and your budget. Buying parts, and doing it yourself is certainly cheaper than outright buying the trans.

There are some REALLY good walkthrus for rebuilding the 46RE trans, check in the FAQ/DIY section for some links.

if you want to rebuild it yourself, this is the guy to watch, he goes over very nut and bolt in full detail, breaks it all down into sections for the 46re..

Funny thing I found out recently, most transmission shops only pull and swap transmissions, they don't rebuild em in house. That's done at TRC distribution centers.

Look at the different kits that patc has, The mega viper i believe is the top of the line. Would definitely get rid of the plastic servo pistons. I noticed that they have 10% off sale till the 21st so now is the time to get it.

This link on this keep forum is for a 46re rebuild. I assume you probably have a 47re? I'm not sure. Maybe I didn't read your post correctly. But it's pretty much the same from what I've been told. If so, this is a good assembly guide

He has the 5.9 gas, so, yep, 46RE.
