Default 95 5.2 Suddenly wont start

Hello,

I have a 95 1500 with a 5.2l. 90,000 miles on truck. Gets drove about 800 miles in summer and a few hundred in winter. Filled it up about 2 months ago with fuel and let it sit until last week. I fired it up and moved it so I could undercoat it and then parked it again when I was finished. Its been cold here below freezing but the past two days its been 40 and truck wont start. A couple times it bumped like it was going to fire but didnt. Now it just cranks and cranks and cranks...

I checked the throttle body and nothing is blocking air flow. Whats my next step? I checked connections all seem good. Just weird that it wont start. Another thing blowing snow got in the cab and could have gotten down into fuse box on side of dash? I just thought of that. Could a crutial fuse been effected? Like I said it did try to fire a few times.

Thanks!

Do you hear the fuel pump run when you turn the key to "On"?

Thats a good question, I did not think of that. I will check that in the morning. Is it common for a fuse to go out or fuel pumps to quit working?

Well, it has a full tank? Probably a failed pump then...... That's usually how it goes.... See if the pump runs, take it from there.

Yes it has a full tank. When I turn the key to "on" I get the "huummmm" noise for about 4-5 seconds then stops. I'm assuming thats the fuel pump. I never remember it running constantly in the past like you hear on chevy pickups. The pump working you think? Whats my next thing to look for?

Tried to start it again today, it bumped more times today like it wanted to start.

But the engine is cranking/turning over, not just starting, correct?

Correct. I tried it today and it started. It was rough at first. I would like to figure out though why it hasnt been starting.

Have you pulled the distributor and look at it? Moisture or burned contacts in there?

My truck is back to not starting again.

It has been cold and snowy here and the truck has been running fine so I have no checked the distributor. I do know nothing has been changed no plugs or wires either and now at 97,000 miles. I pulled the plug from the coil that goes on distributor and I have spark at that. When I crank the engine over I smell raw fuel so I'm thinking the fuel pump is working. Plus I hear it when I first turn key on.

The truck has been not wanting to start only on the real cold days. Below freezing days. Would that be from moisture in distributor? I read somewhere that crankshaft position sensor could be bad? When the truck was running it ran rough for the first few miles and then smoothed out.

Thanks

You have spark, so the crank sensor is fine. Probably cap is carboned up, if it's original, it certainly needs to come out of there.
