I think it's due to the engine now warming up enough. I replaced the thermostat. Maybe I need a 205 degree thermostat? can someone point me in the right direction ? this is a 2001 ram 1500 sport with the 5.9l

 

That is where my gauge sits with my 180* thermostat in it. That said, have you done anything to it recently? Did it suddenly just not get as warm inside? Or, just noticed it now, because, brrrrrr, it's cold outside?

How did you remove the air from the system? Best way seems to be parking it pointing uphill on a rather steep incline. I even used ramps and a hill. You want the filler neck to be the highest point of the system. Let it run up to temp like that plus another 10-15 minutes, goosing the gas from time to time.

Did you drill a small hole in your new thermostat? This seems to help bleed some air out as well.

 

The thermostat has a hole already for bleeding air also did what you said. it's either a 180 or 190, don't remember.

my 98 Durango (no longer own) and 99 2500 both used to read where the right side of the needle was going through the middle of the two before I changed the thermostats out in them (water pump jobs), and afterwards both read where yours is at now. I was stumped on this for a long time and decided the old stats must have just been running hotter from age or something. I still had about same cabin heat which wasn't great because I think the cores where due for changing.

The thermostat is stuck open. Didn't get one of the 'safety-stat' fellers did ya?

Warrranty it out. It's failed.

 

Are you positive? The needle seems to be at roughly 180-190 degrees
