Cat cutt off power

Default Cat cutt off power

I was wonderin my 99 ram 1500 5.9 has a clogged cat if i just cut it off and replace with a pipe will i loose back pressure at all or any other problems Thanks

You would only lose back-pressure if you went to a size of pipe that was bigger than what your motor needs. Many people bypass or remove cat's. Just gotta find a way to bypass the 02's. They might make your ride run poorly without it.

Front O2 will be fine, as it wants to read the raw exhaust stream in any event. It's the rear O2 that you need to fool, and not every truck seems to care overmuch about whether the cat is there or not. If it sets a code whining about cat efficiency, the non-fouler trick should take care of it.
