Give what a shot?

Your trans is pretty much toast, and yep, it's time for a rebuild. Figger on spending 1500 to 2000 for it....... Not an inexpensive endeavor.

It will not shift on its own if you unplug that 8-pin connector. Did YOU try to shift it manually with that unplugged?

I meant is the clutch replacement worth trying myself or is that definitely a shop kinda repair?

But as for removing the plug and shifting.. I tried manually shifting it up to second and it just doesn't shift at all. Won't budge out of first

Okay. Just wanted to make sure you tried it and didn't expect it still shift on its own with that plug disconnected.

I would go for a rebuild at this point then...

Gotta pull the trans anyway to do that job, and, if the TCC is bad, chances are good it has distributed crap throughout the trans, and the rest failing is just a matter of time. You don't want to spend a couple hundred bucks, only to find that it didn't work, and now you need to rebuild the trans anyway.... So, get the trans rebuilt, torque converter replaced, and call it a day.

Well.. damn.. time to start looking for a good reputable shop I guess. Which rebuild kit would be best? I may order a kit and take it to a shop to have it done, that way I know I'm using good parts. I was looking into the transmission center "RAMZILLA" level 5 master rebuild kit. I'm assuming this doesn't come with the TCC based on the price? But would that be recommended? It seems like it turns your tranny into a monster!

I think the level 5 would be serious over kill. Unless you see yourself approaching 800 horsepower some time in the future??? The site is being uncooperative for me at the moment...... else, I would link to something a bit more appropriate. I think a level 2 Viper, or Mega Viper would be more in line with your needs.

Yeah I don't think I'd be getting that high! I'll check out the level 2 & 3 then. How much should the kit cost? The $575 RAMZILLA seemed way too cheap unless it's not actually a full rebuild kit and more of a "beef up kit?"

I think the 575 kit was just clutches, steels, seals, and gaskets. That wouldn't include very many hard parts... (considering just ONE of the parts they listed goes for 600 plus bucks.... and there are ostensibly three six pinion planetarys in the trans......)

I bought a reman from Carquest. It's working fine. If you do that, install a Transfer Case Saver if you have a 231 transfer case while it's out. You could also buy a reman from the company you were talking about the rebuild kit. I think your better off buying reman than getting a kit and having someone build it. There are to many guys that don't really belong rebuilding transmissions. Good luck if you do have someone local tackle it. Make sure to get a new torque converter. It is impossible to adequately flush them. Look at a cut-a-way view, to many places for debris to hide and then recontaminate your new transmission. Trans cooler and lines need flushing.
