Default ABS Light - 95 1500 4x4

I recently picked up the truck and working out a few old truck kinks.

What can cause the ABS light to come on and stay on?

My assumption is a faulty circuit between a control module of some sort (maybe PCM?) and the ABS sensors @ the wheels. If this is the case, is there a particular range of resistance the sensors should have to keep from throwing a light?

Thanks,

Mike

I would start with the ABS sensor in the rear axle. I assume that you only have rear ABS, not 4 wheel.

I haven't pulled the wheels off yet but I believe just RWAL; I don't see any wires around the front wheel.

Any clue wat wat resistance across sensor terminals should be?

Thanks

Mike

Just replace the rear wheel speed sensor then. 99% of the time, on the RWAL trucks, that's the problem.

I think just a few ohms, pretty sure it's just a pick up coil. But, yeah, just replace it. If that doesn't cure your ills, check your wiring to the sensor.

I just changed the rear sensor on my 1996 and ABS/Brake light are still coming on. Checked and none of the fuses are blown. Auto parts store didn't pull any codes with reader. Will check wires next.

on pre obd 2 units I think the module will just store one code and you have to jump pins to read it.

Generic parts Store sensors sometimes work and sometimes don't. If it doesn't clear itself after a few drive cycles then take it back and either try a new one or get a OEM one.

could also verify the wire isn't chewed up somewhere and grounding out.

And you only have rear ABS?
